The Consolation of Philosophy - Ex-Classics.
DE BOTTON: I should say that this book has nothing really to do with philosophy. I did write a book about philosophy back in 2000 (The Consolations of Philosophy), but I haven’t written about philosophy for many, many years.
The ancient Greek Epicurus has the wisest, and most affordable, solution to cash flow problems. A remedy for impotence lies in Montaigne. Seneca offers advice upon losing a job. And Nietzsche has shrewd counsel for everything from loneliness to illness. The Consolations of Philosophy is a book as accessibly erudite as it is useful and entertaining.
I really enjoyed The Consolations of Philosophy. I'm not convinced that AdB is that great a philosopher in his own right, but his gathering together of the wisdom of others is both intelligent and readable.
